I have a 1999 1500 2WD 5.3 with 130K miles. In July my AC quit while pulling towing a camper. I found the AC belt broken. I replaced the belt, but the Compressor squealed bad when the clutch engaged. Not a good thing. I replaced the compressor (remanufactor), accumulator and orfice tube. When I had the system recharged, it wouldn't build pressure on the high pressure side. We determined that I had a bad compressor. I replaced it again (another remanufactor). This time the system bulit pressure on the low side and a vaccum on the high side. Sorta like the compressor was pumping in reverse. I haven't ruled out the possibility that I have another bad compressor and should have purchased new from the beginning. I will be returning the reman and buying new.

Has anyone ever had this problem. I did all the replacing myself and a friend of mine, who is an AC instuctor at a local tech school did the recharging for me. He was totally baffled when the last system worked in reverse. He said he had never seen an ac act like that before.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well, to reverse the suction and discharge sides would be quite a trick. I guess the real question is are you getting the correct compressor from the parts store in the first place?

Before pulling the unit, remove the lines, put 12 volts to the clutch and see which port is doing what (warning... moving parts, and if compressor is working, you will get some oil too.) The suction port should be the larger of the 2. Make sure your lines and port sizes line up.

Sounds like your getting the wrong compressor for some reason. I doubt you reversed the lines when you connected them to the compressor. Also, not all engines rotate in the same direction.

Did you FLUSH the system before installing the new compressor? I imagine you instructor friend would have done that for you after you had a compressor go bad. SOP.
