Engine Shutoff...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I have a slight problem with my 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500hd. Its an 8.1 liter with alison Tranny.

I'll be driving and the motor just shuts off. Everything stays on thats part of the electrical like the radio/ac/etc but the motor just shuts off and maybe after a couple seconds it will turn back on. Anyone got any clues as to what the problem may be?

Thanks

_Nate.

Careful Mike, you've gotten so used to seeing this question asked and answered you made a critical mistake when whipping out the answer.

Mike meant to say Crankshaft sensor. Trust me he knows better. Do a search and you'll see some good info on how to go about replacing it. It's located on the back side of the drivers side cylinder head and it goes down into the bell-housing about 7". A 10 mm bolt secures it. Pry/wiggle it up carefully with some penetrating lubricant and it should be no problem. It's best tackled when the engine is cool to the touch because you're underneath near the exhaust.
