Need New Tires

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2WD XCAB. 5.3 L. Stock suspension setup. Current tires are 235/75R16. I would like to go up to atleast 265/75R16. So with this in mind I have a few ?'s.

1. Will they rub?

2. Will i need to recalibrate my speedometer?

3. If so where can i get this done?

4. Will this negatively affect performance and gas milage?

5. If so is there a way to correct this? (i.e. reprograming computer)

6. If so where can i get this done?

I live in the central DFW area.

Thank you in advance for your help in his matter. :)

1. Nope, they'll be fine.

2. Yes.

3. The dealership can do it, but I'd just get a custom tune.

4. Yes, it will slow down you accelleration very slightly, some people don't even notice. Highway mileage may actually improve.

5. A computer tune will pretty much negate this power loss, as you'll get a nice bump in HP.

6. There are several options.

You can click the link on the left of the page that says "PCMForLess.com". He can take care of you.

Wait4meperformance can do it, Westers can do it, Nelsons, Fastchip, a a few others can all do what you need.

Cheapest is the Wait4me tune, most expensive would probably be Westers, Nelsons, or Fastchip. And while you get what you pay for, the top tuners will only net you a little better tune.

Basically, any of these places will ship you a new computer chip for your truck, you put it in, and send them your old one to get your core charge back.

My tune gave me quite a bit more HP, and exactly 1mpg better (a nice bonus side effect as I went for more performance).

When I emailed wait4me Friday, they said the PCM is 158.10 shipped, and you can keep your stock PCM and our PCM for the $150.00. Im not sure if theirs a core charge in there or not. I asked them what they prefered since I dont have Paypal on Monday, still waiting for the response...I cant wait!

There is a Westers tuner in the DFW area. He will actually hook his computer up and tune while you drive. My FIL did this with his D-Max, and loves the results. The Burb is getting tuned the next time I am in the DFW area. Contact thru www.westerscustomtuning.com

Also, Nelsons tuning is located in San Antonio.

Thanks so much. i have done alot of reading up on the Wait4me Tune. and for $150.00 you cant beat that. i think i may go ahead and order the PCM so i can change the tires and PCM at the same time. also do you know anythink about this crank relearn problem some people have?

Yes, you will probable need to have this done. I paid $50 to have it done at LG Motorsports in Wylie.

One of the guys here at work got the crank relearn done for $20 at a local shop.

But he had to print out the directions (from here I think) and take them in...Which was kind of weird.
