New shoes for the '99

After a little over 50,000 miles on my 285/75/16 BFG AT's, I decided to get some 305/70/16's. I'll probably be getting them put on in the next week or so. A lot of people ask about the difference in the two sizes, so here's a few pics of the two. Granted, the 305's are not mounted on the truck yet, so I'm know the look will change a little when mounted on the rim and the weight of the truck on them.

Whats the difference between these and mud-terrains? Probably won't be buying any anytime really soon, but what kind of benefits and compromises will come with these tires from normal all seasons?

BTW, Disturbed rules.

They're good in dirt and loud as s**t on the highway!

I've never had mud tires, so I can't give a real good answer. I do know that mud tires are usually louder that any other kind. As far as these tires, I don't think they very loud on the highway. My parents live 6 hours away and it's 90% interstate driving and I don't think they are too loud. I used to have a 40 series Flowmaster muffler, and it was loud when cruising at interstate speeds, especially for 6 hours.

I've had these it snow, loose sand, and loose dirt/rocks and have been more than happy with them. They have seen some mud, but nothing really worth mentioning.

The tires on the rims now have a few miles left! Are you going to get the "goodie" out of them?

Of course, next to the new ones, they look a bit tired, but hey, the old ones are free miles now, right? LOL

As for BFG MT's, I have had them in the past. They are a bit louder on the road, but not much, especially for a mud tire. They are a lot better in the mud, but not quite as good in the snow. Unless you go off road a lot or just want the look of the MT, the AT is a better tire for you.

The 285 do have a little life left in them, but I'll probably swap them out with in the next couple weeks. The have between 1/8 and 3/16 of an inch tread left.

I don't think I will, but if so, it will be just plastic that can be trimmed. Maybe the mud flaps, but I hope not. They made a huge difference in the amount of chips on the bottom of the rocker panels.
