New - with a question

First post - great forum. There is a wealth of information on this site.

I took delivery of a 2007 Sierra SL2 Crew Cab on Saturday. It is standard except for the Sport Wheel Package (20" wheels), Chrome Exterior Package and rear tinted windows. The color is Stealth Gray Metallic.

My first question of many - The dealership is offering a "VIP In/Out" package that is a teflon coating on all exterior surfaces and the interior as well. This is a no-brainer for the inside since we have a 4 year old and a 2 year old that like to spill things.

My question is about the exterior. Has anyone ever had this done? It is supposed to seal up the paint and clear-coat, since they are apparently porous. All my information comes from the Aftermarket Manager. Will this prevent me from shining it up real good down the line with products like Zaino, Mothers, etc? This Teflon allegedly prevents the need from ever waxing it again, unless I want to. It is supposed to prevent hard water spots, etc.

Thoughts, opinions (good or bad)?

Thanks - Mike

Heck no. That's crap.

And for the interior...Just go buy a few cans of Scotchguard, and save yourself some Benjamins.

Welcome to the boards, BTW

I had that teflon stuff on a van I had a few years back. Garbage if you want my opinion. ;)

Thanks for the tips. I just called the dealer and they will take that out. I'm going to get the window tinting, mud flaps, and Line-X for the same price.

I'll get some pictures up here sometime soon.

I agree, this is just a ploy to seperate your money from your wallet.

All you ever need to do is wash it every few weeks, wax it every 2-3 months, and once a year you can strip the wax off, clay bar, polish and wax again. I've had vehicles for 10 years and never had a problem with faded paint or oxidation. Aside from the expected minor dents and scratches, the paint was always as shiny as the day I drove it off the lot.

Anytime someone tells you that you'll never have to wax again, immediately RUN the other way...it's a scam!

The dealer said my truck has this done on the interior from the previous owner.

It still didnt stop the Fettucini Alfredo my date spilled all over my jumpseat.

Oh yeah, let me ellaborate on that story...

My date, whom i had dated for about a month, thought it would be funny as i filled up my truck to honk the horn...as she leaned over to lay on the horn in a cutsie way, the container of Fettucini Alfredo she saved from dinner that night opened up and spilled all over the jump seat. She tried to wipe it up with napkins i had in my glove box and put her purse over it, but when i let her out when we got to her house, it was too late.

The smell overpowered the truck for months.

That defenitly ended that relationship. lol.

I second the Scotchguard suggestion. That's probably exactly what the dealer was going to do anyways.

Save your money, packages like that are pure money makers for the dealership.

Go with any polish product out there, Meguiars, Zaino, etc and put a nice shine on your rig :)
