Advice on what to get.

Hi everyone, I'm new here, and didn't know exactly where to post this, so I put in this section of the forum...sorry if I was wrong. So, I'm a current owner of a 2005 Tahoe Z71, and need to switch to a pickup-truck so that I can haul my ATV without having to trailer it. I am trying to decide if I should wait for the new Silverado and Sierra to be around so that I can test drive one, or if I should take the opportunity of the current generation Silverados and Sierras selling cheap, and buy one right now. What I'm looking for is either an Extended Cab or Regular Cab truck, with 4WD, and a mid-length bed (the 79" one?). So, any words or wisdom? What should I do? I appreciate any help...thanks.

It wouldn't hurt to go to the dealer and have them run numbers for you, there are really good deals out there right now on 06's. The new warranty for the 07's might push the price lower on the 06's. Just my opinion. If the numebrs aren't to your liking just walk away.

FWIW, I'd recommend getting the 05-06 1500HD or the 2500HD CC RB with the 6.0, 3.73's or even 4.10's and whatever trans you want, although your mpg may suffer.

My dad has an 03 1500HD with the 6.0, 4L80E, and 3.73's. Mine's in my signature of course. I love them both. Plenty of power, lots of room, and versatility to boot.

Just my dumb opinion. Ignore it if you want. :nopity:

Personally, I would wait until the new trucks come out. That way you can test drive both and decide which one you want. You can get good deals on 06 and 07 models, but you may still want a redesigned one. Good luck on whatever you do.

I really like the 2006 model with the stepside bed, but it probably won't fit my quad. How about a 1500HD Reg. Cab (do they make that)? I am probably going to go with the Silverado...which one?

I'm going to get a Reg. Cab 1500 (HD possibly) Silverado Z71 with the 79" bed.

You won't find a Regular Cab 1500 "HD",They never made one,The only 1500 "HD" they made was a Crew-Cab with the 6'6" bed.

Also you won't find an '06 Stepside,'05 was the last year for the stepside bed option.

Heres your bed length choices for a 1500.....

Regular-Cab....6'6" or 8'

Extended Cab..5'8",6'6" or 8'

Crew-Cab "Non-HD"...5'8" only

Crew-Cab "HD"....6'6" only

Is it really only a higher suspension and 8-lug wheels? For that matter I'll save the extra money and buy a 1500, and use the money I saved on an aftermarket exhaust.
