Throttle body cleaning

Recommended Posts

I cleaned out my throttle body in place with about 55k miles on my Yukon. Does it make any difference to fully remove the throttle body and do a thorough cleaning? I know I have to replace the gasket and obviously it will take a bit longer so I'm curious to know if it's worth the extra effort. There was quite a bit of carbon deposited inside the body but what I could reach came pretty clean.

Removing it allows you to clean it more thoroughly and also allows you to clean the IAC (idle air control). I spray mine about every 20K and pull it every 50K if that helps at all.

Thanks for the advice. It looks pretty straight forward to remove it. Anything I should watch out for?

Nope. I always remove the IAC when I claean it. Some dielectric grease in the electrical connection is about it.
