fuel pump

I am taking a 350 short block out of a 84 3/4 ton and putting a 350 short block out of a 92 3/4 ton back in it. The 92 is fuel injected so i am switching it over to a fuel pump. The problem that i have raninto is that the rod for the fuel pump is not in the 92. I am not very mechanically inclined but I am trying to learn. Can someone please tell me what i have to do to get the rod for the pump out of the 84 and into the 92. Your help would be really appreciated.

As I recall, there's a plate that's removeable once the mechanical fuel pump is off. 4 bolts hold it in place. Once that plate is off, the rod just slides out of the hole in the block.

Does the newer engine still have this hole? Seems to me that when they first went to fuel injection, that plate was just changed to a solid plate to block off where the mechanical fuel pump was mounted. At some point in time, the hole for the rod was no longer present and I'd guess (and it's only a guess) that the cam lobe that operates that rod may not be there either.
