Thrust Torrington Bearing

Hi

I have a noise in my tranny on my 99 Tahoe. Not in park or neutral just in drive and reverse and in all gears. It is a bit of a high pitched noise. I took it to the dealership and they said it was the torrington bearing. They did not disassemble anything. They said it needed a new torque converter and bearing, basically a rebuild. The oil is bright pink and doesn't smell, and shifts perfect.

Has anyone esle had a problem like this? I wonder how they can diagnose this without opening anything up?? Thanks MIke

I had it years ago and all you need is a new torque converter and a good flush with a filter change. Dont go with the flush without a filter and dropping the pan to clean everything.

I have heard the same thing on mine, high pitch noise only when in gear...no all that noticeable, but it doesn't act up so I just leave it as is. When I start running into problems then I will deal with it

OK

So here is the burning question. Rebuild for $1900 or new reman tranny for $2900 canadian dollars. Keep in mind those are dealship prices, and I am getting a second opinion from a tranny shop. One bonus through the dealer is that a buddy works there. Your 2 cents...Thanks
