Serpentine belt

My serpentine belt has parallel lines on the outside; I am going to change this belt at only 20,000 miles (2003 model, 6.0L.) Is this covered under warranty?

Probably not, it is considered a wear item. Can't hurt to ask the dealer

True but your serpentine should not be wore out at 20K miles. If it is, then you either have a defective belt or some larger problem. A properly working pulley/belt system should go at least 60K miles. I'm currently at 68K and only starting to show belt wear and will probably replace shortly with a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine.

I try to replace my belts around 50-60K or so.

I keep an old set with me as a spare

These belts are made better than ever and can last a long time, but they must be inspected. I had checked the wear indicator on the belt tensioner too. I'm gonna try to purchase a Goodyear.

On my old 2001 HD the dealer replaced the belt at about 15k miles under warranty. It was chirping alot, and a new belt cured the problem.
