Old windshield needs help.

Hi All,

 

The windshield of the wife's blazer is all dinged, pitted, and scratched from 80,000+ miles of driving. The sun hits it just right and it's tough to see out of it.

 

Would polishing the windshield with a good glass polish help? If so what brand of glass polish would be recommended?

 

Any advice about doing this (i.e. things to watch out for)?

 

I think it's a fairly significant amount of work and I'd rather not bother if it's not going to make much of a difference.

 

I did a search on glass polish but came up empty.

I had that same problem with an old Jeep of mine and I tried 3 different brands (I cant remember which ones) and nothing worked. So......this may not be the best advice, but is glass covered under your comprehensive insurance in CT? It is in MA, so I just broke the windshield and had the ins company fix it for free, I've been driving for years and figured they owe'd me one . Try this site, it may help you

I do a bit of rock polishing and have attempted the same thing on my old jeep. it had 280k on the windshield and was pretty much pitted all to frag.

 

I set to work one weekend to see if I could make it better. Oh I did make it work. 12 hours of labor, one burnt out orbital polisher ($150) and about 2 lbs of high gloss jewelrs polish ($50) and 2 bottles of advil later I took 100k miles out of the glass.

 

caled the glass place on monday. replacement cost $160 installed for brand new glass. (add one bottle of whiskey $30)
