GMT-800 vs. GMT-400

Sorry if this topic has been started elsewhere, but I'm fairly new to this site. I'm in the market for a used gm truck (4x4 ECSB 5.7 or 5.3), and I am undecided as to which platform I want. I'm a college student, so money is tight. I've been reading various posts on this board for quite awhile and I have noticed alot of problems with the gmt-800s, particularly the early years. Should I go with a late GMT-400 or a early GMT-800?. I will probably be buying a higher milage truck. So if anyone has experience with these trucks, I would love to have your opinions.

88-98 bodystyle is better,They have less problems. Stay away from the first years though! Ive got a 88 and 05 silverado. Plus you wont have to re grease your steering shaft if you get one!

Mine is a 2000 and I have had minimal issues. Overall, I feel the Silverado style is a better truck than the C/K series. Better interior comfort and larger size, better ride and definately better milage. The extended cab is a lot larger and even tollerable for an adult on a short trip. I have 106k on mine and it has at least another 106k left in it. This is quite possibly the best truck I have ever owned.

Yeah, I got the same truck as him except a GMC and 120k miles.
