Anyone else have a motorcyclist take out mirrors?

Yesterday I had the lovely time of having a crotch-rocket wannabe racer put their fist through my passenger side mirror because I wouldn't let them share my lane.

 

250 bucks later, I'll have it replaced this weekend. Lesson learned is push them in the ditch next time... :cheers:

I had a jackass on a bike try to pass me on the left lane shoulder as I was driving my new truck home from the dealer. He quickly remembered the rules of the road when I swerved violently at him.

 

New truck or not I would've been hitting the speed limiter in attempt to run over the moron had he broke my mirror.

No sir. You asses who pass trucks illegally deserve exactly the punishment you receive. If that means picking sewage out of your teeth than so be it. Maybe you'll learn next time. Owning a motorcycle does NOT give you the right to break laws and ride in between lanes. If I ever see someone doing that there gonna find themselves slamming into my door.

Fuk off. Since I have seen a truck do insane s**t on the street then you must do the same since you drive one. lane splitting is leagal in some areas. they guy said in the post he was intentionally crowding.

 

You asses running down people for traffic violations are sick bastards. its disgusting.

Reading this post motivated me to register so that i can respond to this thread.

 

I cant believe you guys would advicate killing someone because they broke some traffic laws. Gave20, have you ever ridden a motorcycle? Do you know that they cant swerve as "violently" as a car? Big deal if a bike wants to pass. Is it going to slow you down or affect you in any way whatsoever?

 

I dont ride any more because its to dangerous with everyone talking on the phone, eating a Bigmac and playing with thier navigation while driving, not to mention people like you guys. But I will tell you I didnt quit without putting up a fight. I too took out some mirrors but only when some jerk almost killed me first.

Crowding the lane or not, that biker broke out his mirror. Flip him the birdie, that's fine. Break his mirror, now it's personal. No... I'm not saying that biker should've been flattened on the pavement, but I wouldn't just let it go without leaving an imprint of my shoe on his ass!

$250 seems a little high on an estimate. I had my mirror taken off a while ago, and the part price that the dealer quoted my was between 3 and 4 times the one I pulled off the internet.

p.s. it pisses me off when motorcycles dart between lanes in rush hour, but it works out even when the rain starts comming down. :cheers:

I had one of the mirrors on my truck broken (done by the guy washing the truck at the dealership...completely an accident).

Anyways, to replace the mirror assembly....$800. Glad I didn't have to pay it.

 

Point: don't get a mirror broken in Canada. ;)

Now dont get me wrong I am not advocating hitting someone while they are on a motorcycle and well making them a permanant mark on the road but I agree with OUMIKE that owning a motorcycle does not give you special privilages on the road...whether or not lane splitting is legal in some areas why the hell would you do it...that is just plain stupidity...i agree there are just as many motorists driving other vehicles that are just as crazy and stupid while driving but again if you are out on the road no matter what type of vehicle you drive responsibly...now for the guy who took out the mirror im affraid i would do my best to follow him and introduce myself after he stopped

+1 - I sold my Harley and haven't ridden since last November. I miss it like hell, but my wife and I agreed that I would never ride again. I had too many close calls, just too many jerks on the road. I still ride a bicycle, and that's getting risky. You have no idea how many times I get brushed while riding in the shoulder. The law says give me five feet, but a lot of people don't do it. They seem to take pleasure in seeing how close they can come to me :cheers:

 

Now as far as lane splitting goes, in California at least, You can't exceed the speed limit, you can't exceed the speed of the flow of traffic by more than 5MPH. So while it's legal, it's controlled, at least by law. I'm in Arizona now, and it's not legal here.

Motorcyclists almost universally take the law into their own hands by flaunting the laws about noise and about headlight glare...so what comes around, goes around!

Actually in Cali, it's an unwritten law. There is no law forbidding it and there is no law saying it's ok for cycles to share lanes. It's an old wives tale that there is a law saying it's ok.

 

Cycles can be fined for careless driving, reckless driving, driving too close, using no turn signals, and so on for splitting lanes if the cops so decide.

 

Much easier to toss them in the ditch where they can double think the broken mirrors for a few hours :cheers:

we're you able to get a license plate #? If so turn his a$$ in to the law. I know if somebody did that to me in my truck my blood would be boiling. I have my cycle license but as far as im concerned when someone is on a bike they should abide by the same laws as any other motorist on the road. Thats just stupid of someone to go and brake a mirror off a car or truck when it sounds like they were in the wrong anyway.

I ride as many miles as I drive every year, these exchanges disturb me. I have had to put my boot into the door of a "cager" who was completely oblivious to the loud red chrome guy screaming at him as he cut me off and tried to kill me. I also have had "punks" make very low percentage manuevers in front of the Burban. I don't want to have to explain to my kids why this idiot is under our truck.

My bottom line is this, if this "idiot punk" is performing an illegal and dangerous maneuver, DON'T KILL HIM. Wait until he stops for gas and knock his teeth out, but who's wrong makes no difference when the stakes are this high.

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
