Relearn

I just got my wait4me and of course I need to do a relearn. Now, besides the dealerships, do you guys no anyone that will do it rather cheap or do you have a technique that I can use? Right now all I am doing is letting the battery drain for a few hours and hope that works. Any ideas?

Call around to hotrod shops. There are a couple here in town that charge about $25 for the crank relearn procedure. I'd say about 50% of them don't know what the hell you're talking about though.

Called around but some dont do it and another did for $68 which is $7 less than the dealership but I trust the dealership more as these people weren't exactly sure what I was talking about. Unless you guys know some ways, looks like I will be forking out $75.

Don't call repair shops, call hotrod shops.

Or at least call the repair shops with a couple of bada$$ hotrods out front. Those guys will know exactly what to do. :troll:

Update:

I let the battery drain for about 4 hours and took her out. She started by stumbling and almost dying but she finally reached a calm 600-700 idle. When I began to drive, whenever I let in the clutch she went down to about 400 (feels like she is about to die), but after awhile she never came close to 500 and was a firm 700 idle. I never got the blinking engine light signifying misfire, so I do not know if I still need to get the relearn or if it corrected itself.

So what do you guys think? Since it gave me signs of misfire (heard no knocking and no lights came on) should I get the relearn done anyway just to be safe? or has she relearned herself?

On another note, I really like but it seems to lag when you get on the throttle hard(you know- vrrr-vrr-vrrrooom).

Bad to hear, mine was plug n play from the start. After installing mine I was going 120mph a few minutes later :troll:

I Never got the crank relearn done, but theres no check engine ligjhts. My buddys uncle works at a GM dealership, so Im going there when I have an hour of free time

Well the engine light came on for awhile. So I had a to take her in today, but something funny happened. About 5 minutes before I pulled into the dealership, the light went off. They performed all the test and found there to be no problem at all. I guess wignut was right when he said it takes about 100 miles to work in the new computer, its been about 70ish.

Nope...they said everthing was all right and that no codes came up so no further action needs to be taken.

When I got my wait4me I got a note inside that said you need to get it done even if the check engine light isn't on. Codes just say whats broken or what sensor is screwed up. Doesnt mean the computer knows the crank info.

I'd take Jesse's word over some guys at the dealer. Speaking of it I still need to get my relearn done. I forget what else the note said, besides you won't get the full benefits until you get the crank relearn.

That seens tru but I do not know if that is covered by warranty. Do you just call up the dealership and be like "Have my warranty cover a relarn?" Will they do it?

I am trying to catch on to what you guy's are talking about "crank re-learn" I was thinking of going to the stealership to see if I could get my PCM flashed with updated software. I was hoping since 2001 they took the sensitivity out of the crank sensor. My truck is stock except the exhaust and K&N air filter.

In the last few months I get a code P0300 multiple missfire, if I have my foot into the throttle and I go down a hill, if it starts coasting with no drag or excelleration on the engine and I am reving 2200 to 2500 RPM. I have read that if you have a bad surpentine belt, idler pully or drive shaft imbalance this would set the missfire code. I can move the tension pully wheel back and forth a 1/8 inch" Other then that the truck runs fine.

Why don't the just put a $ sign rather then the service soon or check engine light?

So I got the check engine light again and called the dealership. I am to take the truck in monday and they will give me a car for the day while they figure out the problem. They said a relearn was covered by warranty. Do you think these guys will perform the relearn or just say they found nothing again. Becuase I do not want to be like, "Hey make sure you perform a relearn" and there like "Why?" and I say "because I have a new computer in there."
