MTX black gold / RF p8002

So i ended up getting getting a pair of 10" MTX black gold series and fosgate p8002 amp. what guage amp kit should i get? 4? and how do you all think this system will sound?

hey there, what kinda subs? mtx black gold? im not familiar with that one. anyhow, well it sounds like you have an 800 watt into two channel amp. right? putting out about 450ish rms. well no matter. my suggestion is all depends on what you plan to do in the future. thats a low setup. you can run 8 gauge, but if you plan to upgrade youre screwed and will have to upgrade to 4 gauge. 4 gauge is an all arounder. itll sustain a decent amount of power with the right fuse. preferably ANL 120amp. from there you can run a couple 8 gauges off of them to multiple amps. now if your amps are like my kickers and they suggest 4 gauge power ins. then you might be starving your amps of power. you can boost it up with a capacitor, but in theory if you go 4 gauge in, your have to go 8 gauge out. you cant go 4 in 4 outs, then youll really starve your cap. so then 0 or 1 gauge in and 4 gauge out. well heres just some info. ive said more than you probably care to know. but the way to go would be a 0 or 1 gauge kit. thatll set you off for a while. a 4 gauge is minimum in my books. a decent 4 gauge kit will run you about 100 for 850 watt power, and 4 gauge 1200 watt kit will run you about 120 at circuit city, last i checked. a zero gauge will run about 250. metra brand. i recommend them over the fosgate. the fosgate kits runs thinner gauge than they claim to be. just fyi. and yes they will hit very nice in your truck! ive installed many systems in silverados and sierras, not to mention my own. and you should be happy with the bass. i recommend a down firing box if possible. i have 1 12" in my extended cab. it sounds awesome! good luck!

I don't like the idea of putting a higher rated fuse in your inline than what your amp will handle, the whole point of having an inline fuse is to keep power surges and major shorts from your amp... whenever I do an install, I match the inline fuse with the fuse(s) in the amp... my amp runs 2 40amp fuses, therefore my inline fuse is an 80A, and 4 gauge will work with that amp, I've had friends in the past with that amp run 4 gauge and it worked fine. however if you're going to be running capacitors and/or and extra battery, I reccomend running 0 gauge back to them, and then through a distribution block and run 4 gauge into the amp and capacitor and/or battery, that way your charging system will have a clear shot to everything and your amp will be able to draw extremely well from all charging and power storing devices you have.

i ended up selling that fosgate amp immediately and bought a viper 2500d... i posted on a new thread with questions i have about it
