Power lock trouble

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado half ton with the LT package and i need some electrical help.

Back in august i installed a sub in my truck and it was going fine until i had to get the power wire from the amp to the battery through the fire wall.

I first attempted to shove the wire through the existing hole where the other wires go through. I used a metal rod for cleaning a gun (real smart i know) and tried to shove it through. Well it didnt work. The radio was on when i tried this and then it lost power, turned the radio off, but after i pulled it out the power came right back on. Like a power surge or something.

So i finally ended up drilling a hole for it to go through.

Well i come to find out that after trying to shove that wire through the power seats didnt work, the power mirrors didnt work and the power locks didnt work but when i use the remote it still honks after 2 presses of the lock button.

The above is what i posted back in august.

I figured out that i blew a 50 fuse, so when i replaced that everything worked again except the passenger door power lock. ONLY this side dosent unlock. when i use the remote the driver side unlocks but not the passenger side. The passenger side unlock button unlocks the driver side but not the passenger. The passenger side window and heated seat works just fine.

I took apart the passenger door to see if it was something easy or something not connected, but everything was fine.

I am not sure if there is a fried wire under the dash where i attempted to shove the wire thru or if there is a switch bad or what?

Any help would be great!!

thanks,

Matt

I wasn't aware of this until I looked at the schematic just now, but it appears there's a separate lock fuse and unlock fuse for the right door only. They're in the fuse block on the left side of the dash.

HOWEVER, the actuator works by simply reversing polarity so if it lock, it should unlock. The schematic is not really clear on this but it appears that if either fuse were to blow, it would neither lock or unlock. Still, check these fuses first.

I truly appreciate the help that you are giving me.

Can a fuse be bad even if its not broken?

All my fuses are in good shape, i dont know how to check the blue, green, and purple ones.

maybe ill try replacing them anyway.

any other ideas?

Not likely, but I'd test it with a test light just to be sure. I really don't think it can be a fuse. That would open one of the two ciruits and the lock wouldn't work in either direction.

Would a schematic help you if it's not a fuse?

Yes a schematic would help, so i will have to follow the wire and try to find the interuption?

I replaced the red and yellow fuses and it still is the same as before.

thanks

Nothing else I can do to help if you're not able to follow the schematic and find out where the interruption is. It's really a very simple system.

If you did follow the schematic, checking for power, tell me what you checked and what the results were. Otherwise, you'll probably have to take this to someone that understands these systems.

After completly ripping apart the door, trying to replace the actuator, testing the switch and finding that there was power everywhere I finally figured it out.

It was a bad relay in the cab fusebox. Nothing big at all. Works perfect now!!
