foglight installation

I finally bought a set of OEM foglights from my local GM dealer for about $ 190 + tax (I got about 15% discount). They ship the lights with the lower valance panel and the lights come in a huge box, about 2X3X6 ft long. So make sure you pick up your foglights with your truck if you buy them from a GM dealer.

I pulled off the old valance panel and installed the new one. You need to reuse the lower portion of the valance and it is difficult to remove from the old one. Removing all those plastic clips from the old valance is PITA at best. Installing the new one is a snap (pun intended). I find the instructions terrible, as they do not show anything clearly. Anyway, so far I have mounted the lower panel and the foglights. All that is left is installing the switch, relay, electrical harness, and pluggging the harness in the right spot in the relay box. It should not be that difficult, but as I said, the instructions are poor and with very unclear small illustrations.

Somebody posted instructions with nice clear pictures how to install the OEM foglights. I got the relay into correct spot, but plugging the harness connector terminal into the headlight connector is another thing. The instructions stink. First, they do not call out the color of the headlight connector, which is green. Then, there are no numbers or letters on the individual terminals as shown in the instructions. And finally, the drawing showing the underside of the connector has no references as to the position of the connector. No wiring harness or terminal gate is shown as a reference. By process of elimination I can probbably figure out where to plug it, but I rather double check.

Can somebody direct me to the post that had the photogrpahs? Thanks. I did the search but could not find it.

All done and everything works as it should. All I have to do now is aim the foglights.

The BEC cover reverse side clearly shows the location of the fog light relay, including the orientation of terminals. Much better than the fog light instructions. The relay letters on top will be upside down when looking at it from the side of the truck.

The connector you attach the harness terminal into is in the upper left corner and green in color. There are no letters or numbers on the terminal as shown in the instructions. When looking at the underside of the terminal standing in the front of the truck, the plug-in position is as shown in the instructions. But the did not show where the terminal harness is in the picture for proper orientation. Anyway, you can eliminate other locations, because the connector has to go to one of the fog light relay terminals.

The dash switch replacement is tricky. The switch needs to be pried out and the connector behind it has a locking tab. The best way to pry out the switch is to pull out the left switch cluster, then insert a flat bladed screwdriver on the switch side and pry it out. New one just snaps in. The trim around the switches just pulls out, but you need to place the gear shift level into its lowermost position for clearance. Just use your fingers to pull it off, one tab at a time.

The harness is routed along the radiator support. Use the supplied locking clips to hold it in place. There are two holes already predrilled in the radiator support bottom panel for the clips to fit into. You need to attach the grounding terminal to a screw near the right foglight. The screw already has another ground wire attached to it. I used extra cable ties to secure the harness in place.

The fog lights only work with ignition on, and come off automatically when high beams are turned on. the fog light switch has a tiny light that comes on when the lamps are turned on.

If you take your time and have no help, the fog light installation takes about 4 hours total.
