Losing Power....

Hi guys, I know this is a truck forum, but I'm sure you guys have seen enough cars in your time. I have a 2001 Chevrolet Impala, 3.8 ltr. At around 4000 rpm, it starts losing power and has a slight popping in the exhaust, like its starving. It's not really a "miss" but the code says "Random Cylinder Misfire". It's almost as if the electronic timing advance is not working correctly. This car runs so smooth and has plenty of power at idle and low end rpms. It only has 60,000 miles on it.

Today I changed the plugs, wires, fuel and air filters. We also cleaned the injectors but they looked great.

Any suggestions?

LOTS of issues with the catalytic converters plugging up on the Impala. You might be in the early stages of failure.

At 60,000 miles and a 2001, you are still within the 8/80 warranty period for the cat, so hopefully that's it. It seems to me there's either a recall or special policy on the Impala for this problem because it is so common.

Yep, just looked it up. There's a special policy which extends the warranty period on the cat to 10 years, 120,000 miles. This is not the same as a recall, so they won't just go ahead and replace the cat unless it has failed.
