GMC Upgrade

Hi,

Thinking about some performance upgrades for my '02 Sierra.

Presently has a 4.8 and auto tranny. Was considering a charger

at first but then got to thinking about the possibly of pulling

the 4.8 and dropping in a 6.0 H.O.. Probably changing the

cam and doing some work to bring it near 400 hp.

Anyone had experience with doing this? Any thoughts?

Also anyone have an idea which cold air intake works best

on these trucks?

Id imagine swapping in a 6 liter would cost the same as buying a supercharger. An air intake is an air intake, some reusable some arent. Im still trying to decide what to do with mine.

Actually no, 6 liter would be cheaper (money not really an issue),

could easily be taken to 400 hp, be

normally aspirated, and leave room for charging later.

Also I'm sure some cold air intakes work better than others, that's what I'm hoping to

find out.

Just trying to get some input from peeps who have tried this.

Well you can get a STS turbo for 4 grand or a Vortec supercharger for 4,600. A radix supercharger is also 4k.

 

Swapping in a new motor would mean dealing with all the computer stuff, and rebuilding the tranny cause the 4L60E handles 370 ftlbs stock, which is close what the 6.0's make stock in '06, it should hold Id imagine. Or getting a 4L80. Im not sure what the going rate on a 6.0 is tho.

Will probably get the 4L80 in a combo with the 6.0, that or build up

the 4L60. Will have the truck dyno-tuned and computer reflashed.

Found a crate 6.0 H.O. for about 3600, can get engine/tranny on ebay/

wrecking yard for a bit more.
