exhuast questions

I am on the market for a new exhuast system on my 98 Z71, I recently cracked my driver side pipe and had to get it temporary welded back together, so now I am on the market for a new setup. Anyone have any suggestions on brand? flowmaster? Gibson? I'm looking for a nice tone at idle and acceleration along with HP and Torque increase, also needs to be able to with stand towing and off-roading, Little new at this so any help would be great.

Thanks

I've owned several GM trucks in that era and have always had good luck with the flowmaster products. If you want the interior noise minimal you should go with the delta flow muffler. If you want a real throaty loud truck go with the 40 series. I had an '01 GMC with the 8.1 and had an 80 series big block muffler on it. It sounded great. That muffler was a dual in dual out configuration. You may even look at the hush power series as well. I don't have any experience with them but they look like a great product. Anyway, food for thought.

I have a Gibson cat-back on my truck. It's a stainless steel setup, so after 4 Canadian winters, it's still very solid.

There are so many systems out there and in the end, it all boils down to personal preference.

Here is a sound clip of my setup (it's a little distorted, mp3 players do not make great audio recording devices).

All the best in deciding which brand! ;)

Thanks for the Input, I've been liking the Gibson dual sport catback and the gibson split rear catback exhuast systems, but from what i was reading, they dont suggest off-roading and towing. any ideas? I love how your yukon sounds, but i think i am leaning to a dual exhuast system over a single.

I don't understand why Gibson would say no off-road or towing.

One of the main reaons to go with a better exhaust is for a litle more power to help with towing. That was the reason I explained to my wife anyways. ;)

the other reason is pure vanity....better sound!

Yea, never though of that.

My exhuast is a side exit so it wasn't an issue for me.

Split rear...could they recommend not towing for the bounce back sound you will get from pulling a trailer?

Let me rephrase that:

" Muscle-car style and rumble! Not recommended for towing or heavy-duty off-roading. Some lowered trucks may require rear shock relocators. 50 States Smog Legal"

I missed the Heavy-duty off-roading part :banghead:

Is there any benefit from having a Dual side exit over spilt rear? besides the sound when towing? or is it just the looks and personal preference?

it is not so much of bounce back, as exaust fumes being trapped. like a travel trailer, or camper shell. in most states it is agenst the law. here in CA it is becouse people were dieing from riding in the back of pu's with caps on them with duels running out the back becouse of carbon monoxide.

Just curious if anyone has any good ideas what to do with exhuast. i want to change mine out. iam sick of that high school sound pipes haha. i got true dual no cats 2.5inch back to a set of 24inch flo pro straight through glass packs. i want to go to a high performance muffler thats gonna give me some horsepower. i want a nice deep throaty sound with some muslce behind it. i was told to switch to 3 and a quarter piping going to a dual in dual out magnaflow but iam being quoted around $850 for the system. anyone got any ideas that will save me some money and yet get a good decent sound

I have the Gibson single side exit. Gibson recommended it for towing because of the bounce back that straight duels give. Also the starting torque range is lower with a single exhaust, ie... better for towing. I love it and keeps they sound at a perfect level for long hauls with the toy hauler. Also works great with cylinder cut out, no droning

hmm. that is a pretty good price to! yeah the 3 inch piping sure got my eye. my old truck (which i still have) i got 3 inch piping from the header back all single exhaust going into a v force muffler. then into a 4 inch tip. Truck sounded really good but the only thing, it had a droned sound. I noticed that gibson only had one single pipe entering and you can get one or two going out. you know if you can get some kind of adapter thingy haha to go from duals to single to that muffler?
