30K Service This Week

My 2005 DXL will be going in for its 30k mile service this week.

 

As near as I can tell from the factory maintanence guide I shouldn't need to do anything beyond a normal Maintanece II.

 

I know my dealer is likely to try and push a couple hundred bucks of stuff on me - can I just tell them ' No thanks?'

 

We do some moderate towing of a camping trailer (twice per year). I'd planned to have them drain/flush the transmission and differential next spring before the first trip. What are the thoughts on this too?

The owners manual tells you what needs to be done. They will probably say you need the power steering fluid flushed and maybe your fuel system needs their special service People will say differnt things about tranny service. I had the flush and filter changed at 48K. My local mechanic did it. He drops the pan, takes out the filter, puts the pan back on, does the flush, drops the pan, puts the new filter in, puts the pan back on and tops it off. About $100 for this.

Not a big flush fan here even though we sell the machines. There is nothing wrong with using the machine to extract the fluid so the pan drop and filter change is easier and then use the machine to refill the trans. I just do not like the idea of the flush being used to avoid dropping the pan and replacing the filter. This is just not right and IMO is not the thing to do.
