Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor Rebuild

I originally posted this in the 1500/2500 forum, but thought I may get more opinions here.

Stopped by Discount Tire this morning to order up the BFG A/Ts and asked some general questions about the tire pressure monitor sensors. The dude helping me mentioned they have a rebuid kit available for the sensors, which includes o-ring(s), valve stem, cap, and maybe something else (it's been a long day!) for $3/tire. I've heard that problems can occure with the valve stems and caps in these systems, and $12 seems like pretty cheap insurance. Curious if the rebuild is a GM recommended practice, or if it is better to leave well enough alone.

That should have read "valve CORE", instead of valve stem.

According to a post on the 150/2500 board, the kit includes the oring, cap, and the outer sleeve.

Not much of a rebuild! None of that stuff goes bad. It's the sensor itself that can be a problem though we don't see those fail that often either.
