cam position sensor

I just finished changing the intake manifold gasket on my 99gmc sierra classic, with a 5.0L. I started the truck and it fired up right away and ran great, but the engine light came on. In doing a scan I found that the cam position sensor is the problem. When I removed the distributor I indexed the rotor to the base and the base to the intake, it went back in the same way, however there is problem causing the light to come on. Did I do something wrong? will the problem work its way out over time? The engine runs great, not too sure if I should drive it much with this problem. Help

You only have to be off one tooth on the distributor when you put it back in place to cause the problem you have.

I've posted the procedure for properly re-installing the distributor when you have this problem, so if you search for it, you'll find it in several posts. I think the code it sets is a P1345, so you may want to try searching for that. I'm not 100% positive on the code#, but give it a try in case I'm right. :D

I had posted this complete with the graphics on another server some time back and just remembered that. Go here to see/read it...

But, the procedure I posted here before seems to have more information, just no pictures so find and read that too.
