Coolant leak from water pump area

Recommended Posts

I have coolant streaks on the bottom of my oil pan and steering, small amounts but it was still wet when I was under the truck to grease the fittings.

I traced it to the pump area, not sure if its the pump or pump gasket. I have 117K on the clock so I suppose its time for a new pump anyway.

Any helpful pointers on changing a 99-06 4.8/5.3/6.0 water pump?

Most likely not the pump. It is your water pump gasket. Replace with Fel-Pro. You will need 2 of them.

This will fix your problem!

My opinion is that if it's old enough to start leaking, you might as well replace the pump too. You're right there, you've got all the work done, why not go for the peace of mind and put a new one in?

That's fine, but don't bother using the cheep gaskets that come with it. USE THE FEL-PRO metal gaskets or your problem will be back in no time at all.

i appreciate your response and you're most like correct in that its simply the gasket, as pointed out since I will have the unit off I'll go ahead an replace it since I've got higher mileage on the original.

Its the Pump, Pretty easy to change. Ask if you have any questions.
