Tires from other manufactures

I went to go put on my spare tire today and noticed it was even the same as the other four. It is the Bridgestone brand name, but not the same design or tread design. We had our first snow fall (laughingly only 2 inshes) and had to use 4wd to go up a little hill (no weight in the rear). When I get my income tax return, I plan on getting either some Revos or BFGs.

What does Ford put on their 3/4 ton 4x4s? Dodge too? What about the imports? Do those owners have gripes about their tires like we do?

Just curious.

I think on the newer Ford and Dodge 3/4 ton trucks they come with a BFG Rugged Trail tire. Traction is decent but they don't wear well.

Years ago Dodge put the Michelin LTX M/S on their 3/4 ton trucks... it is a long wearing and excellent all around tire.

It used to be standard when you ordered A/T tires from GM that you would get 5 of them (spare included). Now you get four and the A/T spare is an additional option... go figure...

Yeah well I have the opposite. I have 4 BFG H/Ts and the spare is an A/T. Why on earth would they give me a better spare than the fitter 4 tires. Thought the 4 on the Yukon are 265/70/17s and the spare is a 265/75/16.5 to get almost the same diameter.

I keep reading on this site how great the A/Ts are  If you have the H/Ts like me, then even 4wd is not enough, you will probably need to get some real tires.

Dodge still uses Michelin LTX as standard tire on their new 06 trucks - at least on the 2500 and 3500 models, except duallies. 1500 series trucks with 20 inch wheels come with Goodyear tires. 1500 series trucks with regular size wheels get LTXs also.

I venture to make a statement that of the three major manufacturers, GM uses by far the crappiest OEM tires on their trucks. I think that the Gneneral tires they use are the or at least among the worst tires made in the world.

My wife has a company vehicle Ford 4x4...it had P.O.S. General's on it a few years back. Right up until she nearly did a complete 360 on our 25 degree icy driveway one year and nearly went off a very steep bank. Needless to say those tires were immediately gone.

The General Ameritracs on my Colorado sucked bad. After it rained a few times, I nearly slid into a stop sign cause the rear tires hit some little puddle and hydroplaned, which I didn't immediately notice til I hit the brakes and locked them up.

I replaced them at 2,300 miles and when I traded the Colorado in with 20k, the tires still had plenty of tread left and I've never been stuck with that truck, and it was a 2wd Z71.

Replaced the Bridgestones that came with my HD cause it had no traction in dirt or wet/dry grass. I was digging up ruts in my backyard whenever I backed the trailer in EMPTY (weighs about 3-4k empty). So I replaced the tires at about 1k miles with BFG A/Ts again and I rarely spin the tires now.

When I ordered my truck I ordered the 'off-road' tires (what a joke), and I paid $15 extra so that the spare would be the same tire (????) even my bro-in-law (who works for GM) said WTF....?

I just had new tires put on the truck before I picked it up from the dealer. The spare which comes factory has about 10 times the meat as the ones I have on the wheels. I dont understand it

You probably have the same a me. H/T on the truck, A/T spare. The H/Ts are just rubbish. Worse for me, is that I got the option "Spare same size as fitted wheels" but in reality this means 265/70/17 H/T as the main tire, and 265/75/16.5 A/T as the spare, I mean is this penny pinching or what.

Vehicle manufacturers are using very cheap tires....probably to keep profits up, if they have any. I never buy a truck with OEM tires. It's the first thing that the dealer has to replace to make the sale.
