Changing Instrument Clusters

Hi,

I want to change out the instrument cluster on my 2003 silverado. There is one I found locally that's used from an Escalade model. Can these clusters be changed by simply removing my old cluster and installing the new one? I believe the newer escalade cluster has fewer miles on the odometer than my current one and also has a transmission temp gauge.

I'm thinking the process shouldn't be that simple, otherwise many people would change out the cluster and sell the vehicle with lower miles than the actual reading.

Thanks for your help

from what i know the IPC needs to be programmed. It is simple to swap but don't think it will work. VIN numbers will not match. Don't know if you can change the vin on the escalade IPC.

It is that simple. And more people than you think do do it, its called odometer fraud.
