Fog lights

I own a 2001 3/4 HD w/ the 6.0. I bought the truck off the lot and now I would like to add the oem fog lamps. Does anyone know if this can be done including installing the interior switching.

Yes, you can get the kit straight from the dealer, but you have to get the computer reprogrammed so that it will "recognize" them.  I don't know what the cost for any of that is though since mine came with them.  I think it would be pretty easy to install them, but the dealer will have to do the programing.

Good luck.

Unfortunatly the OEM lights really only look good...  They don't do what they are supposed to do very well. and if you up the wattage of the bulbs, they tend to melt...

But everyone is right, they can be added...

Why wire them through the PCM?  I feel this is a bonus if you can bypass the PCM as you have full control over the lights.  Wiring them in is really a simple circuit.

You mount the lights in the air dam, mount/locate the switch in the dash after you have figured out which pole is the hot input and which pole is the switchable out pole.  Then wire the power to the light.  From there individually ground each light.

At least this is how aftermarket kits are done.  All you need is the lights and the switch, wire it the way YOU want.

I will mention though, the PIAA has a light (the 980 series) I believe that fits perfectly into the stock airdam and will provide much better lighting especially when adding more powerful bulbs.

I agree, do NOT go with factory lamps.  When I ordered my truck I actually made sure they didn't put them in because I knew I'd end up taking them out.

PIAA definitely makes a good set of lights that fit well, but they're also going to run upward of $300 plus.  I opted to place some Pilot fog lights in mine, and am 100% pleased.  They're only 55 watts, but they're #### bright and do the job for me.  Better yet, they were only about $60.  They don't fit the factory opening perfectly, but I don't care, they look and work better in my opinion.  As for the switch, I took it out of the regular harness and it installed perfectly near my dome light switch.

My 2 cents.  Good luck.
