Mirrors....

So I was driving along and a car crowded my lane so rather than wipe out my driverside of the truck I moved over, and I ended up clipping a moving van's west coast style mirror. The mirror folded in like it should have, but the actual mirror popped out and slammed into window, and broke. Called up the dealer and it's $150 plus tax. These are the power extend camper mirrors. So now my delema, but the new glass for $150, or but the new ford style mirrors. I figure I am spending about $165 after tax, so why not upgrade, and recoup some of the cost by selling off the drivers side miror on e-bay or someplace... Are the new mirrors worth it??

I recently broke the glass in my heated, turn signal, electrochromatic mirror on the driver side and know what it's like to feel the dealership whip it out when you go in to get the glass. The replacement for mine was $248.70 list, or $186 shipped wholesale.

There is a variety of options on ebay for you. You could buy the whole mirror assembly and then either swap out the glass or swap the whole mirror. Or there is always the chance you'll find a used mirror glass in excellent condition all by itself (I did). There are also a number of aftermarket folks on ebay that will sell you the replacement piece of glass that tapes into the factory backing plate.

I ended up getting a factory glass from a used mirror on ebay that arrived in excellent condition (looks better than my mirror that broke.. haha) and saved a lot of $$!

This is exactly what I did when I cracked the glass on passenger side mirror - actually I didn't crack it - the flying debris on the highway cracked it. :chevy:

If you are patient enough, you can find a good deal on a used one from Ebay.

Good luck,
