8.1L rattle at 1800-2200 rpm, part throttle

Can feel a very slight vibration under my left foot (maybe it's in my head) on the driver's floorboard at the same time I here the rattle. My truck has had this since new, would rather figure it out myself then take it back to the dealer for this.

Anyone else hear/feel this rattle?

Is it a metal on metal or plastic on plastic type rattle? Can't say that I've noticed anything in my truck.

I've got an overall slight hum/vibration at slow speeds or stopped but I think it's just the huge engine and it's torque waiting to be released :driving::thumbs::nono:

Hard to tell, it's fairly muffled but if I had to guess I'd say metal vibrating on something. Only in that rpm range.

I've had and found three. First one sounds like the one you're describing, it was the heat sheild for the LH exhaust pipe where it runs under the transmission. One of the bolts was way loose.

Second was the clamp on the exhaust pipe behind the convertor where the rear slips in. the clamp was loose and the pipes would rattle together at certain RPMs. My exhaust shop buddys say they fix them all the time. He welds but I was able to carefully tighten it up with some Penetrating Blaster and a big wrench. The exhaust got quiter also.

Third and my faivorite so far is that my RH inner fender well has completely separated from the bed. All the spot welds are ripped apart. Haven't fixed it yet.

All rattled when warming up and over bumps.

Thanks Haulin'8.1, I'll crawl under the truck and check those 3 things out as soon as the snow stops fauling.... supposed to stop sometime on Saturday or Sunday.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow :driving: . We finally got a couple days of no snow. I was finally able to catch up on snow removal today and get my whole driveway opened back up. Little over 3 feet in the yard now. Pretty mild winter this year.

I'd say it's some part of the exhaust system/heat shields like Haulin'8.1 said. I suppose another possibility would be a branch or something stuck up underneath vibrating against something. I use to get that alot when I was driving through sage brush.

Haulin' 8.1L....... THANK YOU!!!

After 2 years of annoying the hell out of me, I found the source of the vibration and fixed it, thanks to you.

It actually wasn't one of the options you listed but was close. While under the truck checking out your suggestions, I noticed another heat shield where the exhaust runs along the passenger's side of the transmission. There are only 2 bolts holding it on and if you flick it with your finger it vibrates like a loud tuning fork. I stuffed some convenient open cell pipe insulation in there to firm up the shield against the trans pan and to my utter amazement, the vibration/rattle is gone.

Now I'm going to have to get use to this truck NOT making the noise.

Like I said...... Much Thanks
