i did this on a 01 silv, we just left the transfer case on and pulled out the front axles, driveshaft, ect. im not expert but you could probley just take off the transfer case and get a longer drive shaft(possiable out of a 2wd truck of the same) and bolt it up, i dont see why you couldnt, of anything tho may i ask why your wanting to do this?

Yeah, this is the first I ever heard of going in the other direction, but to each their own. I think it would be hard to do it, just like going from 2wd to 4wd. Mainly it has to do with the transmission itself, the tailpiece that goes into the transfer case isn't set up for a direct driveshaft connection. You'd have to find another transmission or get the tailpiece from a 2wd and change it.

Easiest way is to disconnect the front shaft and unhook all connections to the transfer case other than speedo, then cut off the 4wd stick and put a console over the hole.

So all i would need is a 2 wheel tranny tail piece??? I dont know what its called..

I want to take the tranfer case out completely to work on because theres something grinding in there. So if i could get a tranny tail??? to work then i could work on the transfer case and once fixed i could just swap it back.. thats what i want to do.. i just want to know if its possible to bolt on a 2 wheel tranny tail piece??

It's possible to put on the 2wd trans tail, and you'll also need a longer driveshaft from a 2wd truck. However, you'd probably spend less money by simply buying a used transfer case from a junkyard, rebuilding it, or installing it temporarily and rebuilding yours. Either that or collect your parts and take a Saturday to rebuild yours and don't worry about all the extra work.

A used transfer case is like 800 bucks.... :D

Then you're not at the right junkyard...I can get one around here (Flint, MI) for $150-200...which is about what I'd pay for a driveshaft and trans, since they don't like separating transmissions.

Do you happen to know which transfer case you have? It may be one of the NV models that eventually spring a leak cause the clip rubs on the case. Not sure how you can figure out which one you have but I can remember some of the cases were NV246, NV261, and NV263.

Won't this FUBAR your 'puter?

Seems like it would to me. But if it's just temporary then I guess a few annoying warning lights are ok. Maybe get you to hurry up and rebuild the TC. Not sure about any drivability issues though.
