Never thought I'd need to ask for help...but I do!

So the clutch is getting down the the wire for me.  It's not slipping yet, but it has all the classic symptoms of impending doom like higher pedal effort, and more recently...hard to get into gear and now it's shuddering a bit on takeoff.

As a dealership tech myself (not GM though), I would think that I can handle this myself.  But I have a few concerns.

Other than the line up tool of course, are there any special tools required for this job?  I've never dealt with this rear mounted transmission setup before, and I'm wondering if this is going to cause me problems

Another question is about the parts.  In my shop, I always replace with OEM parts.  That really the best way to go here?  I know most aftermarket setups compromise something like pedal effort and smoothness, but I'm open to one if there is one that adds durability and compromises nothing.  Maybe a Z06 clutch (if they're even different than the base model)?  The clutch in my old '02 Z06 felt totally fine and I would be happy with that result for this car.

Thanks in advance guys.

sound like you have some spare time on your hands it's a pertty big job not to scare you. it's been some time since I've done one there is a special flywheel holding tool when tighting the bolts on the flywheel (J-42386a) and j-38836 pilot bushing installer/ clutch alingment arbor. then there is a special fixture for your tranny jack that helps balance the trans, diff and tourqe tube becuse it all comes out as one unit. (kinda acward) then you may want a puddy nife to install between the torque tube and the brake lines I think its brake lines mounted on drives side you see it's a tight fit they may be fuel? then when you lower the trans to acess the torque tube to engine bolts MAKE SURE THAT YOU DON'T TIP THE ENGINE BACK TO FAR OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE COPOSITE DASH / FIRE WALL. Well I hope this helps you out. :D

go to www.corvetteforum.com for answers on this. I just had mine done and there is NO way I would try this myself (I have installed motors, transmissions, clutches, and multiple differentials in the past).
