96 2.2 interference engine or not

96 sonoma timing chain broke .[160.000 miles]i replaced timing chain gears and tensioner. no compression in any cylinder took off valve cover to conform that the valves were opeving and closing.i hooked a air line to each cyl one at a time confirmed that the valves were closed for that cyl. and air blows back through the throtle body on every cyl.before i take the head off i need to know what type of damage usualy happens when timing chain breaks.is the 2.2 a interference engine or not.

I believe that the 2.2 is an interference engine, and there is a strong possibility you have some broken/bent valves. At least the last 2.2 I worked on that broke a timing chain had a couple bent valves.
