Oil cooler line quick connector

I am trying to remove the oil cooler lines on a 2003 Denali. I am looking for information on how to uncouple the quick connector at the line to radiator connection without having to purchase a special tool. Any advice would be appreciated.

Redvett is right, the tool is not expensive. The connector can be removed without the tool but you have to know what you are doing and be very careful.

Ours (CARQUEST) is called a "Quick Disconnect Tool" and the part # is 39622. The bottom is about the dia of a 50 cent piece and sort of cone shaped with the top a little smaller than a dime with the entire piece being about 1 & 1/1 inches tall. The side is slotted so it will fit over your line, slide up to the connector and remove the clip/pin that holds it in place. There will be a small plastic protective cover over the clip/pin and you will have to slide it down and away from the clip/pin.

This info is accurate if your lines are the same as mine on my '02 model. If they are and you can easily see and reach the connector, you can slide this pin/clip out with a very small scredriver.

Also if you go back to the auto parts store it may help them if you told them the tool would likely be avail either in KD Tools or Lisle Tools. Two of the more popular brands of specialty tools such as this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advise. It was the plastic cover that was confusing me. I thought it was part of the clip. I was able to pull the clip out without a special tool. Now its off to the hydraulic shop to repair the leaks on the crimp fittings.

thanks again

Just a note to anyone planning to replace the engine oil cooler hoses on a 6.0 L that have both hoses joined as one piece. Cut the rubber hoses off and remove in 2 sections. Have a hydraulic shop add some tubing fittings and new hose and reinstall in 2 sections.

I am not sure how much trouble and expense you went through, but I can tell you that Dorman OE Solutions now offers these oil cooler lines. We sell them as well as many other Parts Stores.
