Removing Radio

I got my 2007 Sierra a month ago and want to connect my MP3 player to it. I purchased the connector and harness from Crutchfield. I need to remove the the plastic around the radio, but I'm not sure if it is attatched with only clips or are there screws as well. Has anyone removed their radio and have tips.

Contact Crutchfield....not sure many folks have yanked their 2007 radio already...

 

Call best buy, circuit city and ask them.....they have the procedures...

 

typically you have to pull the dash trim to get at the screws to pull the radio...

 

be prepared for the radio theftlock to engage once you reconnect power to it.....might be ok since it get's the code from the BCM....

Theftlock is VIN controlled and un hooking the battery on any GM truck newer than 2003 is Vin driven. As long as the same radio stays with the same vehicle it came from your OK.

Wow, you can add an AUX port to a stock radio?

 

I wonder this because I see a button on the radio that says AUX, but could not locate an AUX port anywhere. This would make things really neat for my iPod.

 

How does one go about doing this? I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I figure since you are doing the task, you must know how it is accomplished.

I got the Aux. plug installed, looks and functions great. The trim around the radio/instruments just pops out. Removed all the screws for the bottom panel and it popped out as well. Radio had three screws and was out. unplugged 12 pin connector, plugged in GM12-AUXV2 that I purchased from Crutchfield(actually made by P.I.E. industries). Plugged original 12 pin into the new harness. Yellow wire to 12v constant(I used wire for lighter), black wire to ground. plugged in converter to new harness and mounted. This is where I customized it a bit, I didn't want to run it into the glove box. I wanted to plug into the dash, so I bought a cable that had the male RCA plugs on one end and a male 1/8 on the other. I cut the 1/8 male headphone jack and soldered a 1/8 female on instead. I bought a cable that had 1/8 male headphone jack on both ends, so when I'm not using the MP3 player the connection is almost flush with the dash. If you do this, be sure that after you cut off the 1/8 male jack that you run the cable through the hole before soldering the 1/8 female connector in place. To toggle between XM and AUX the instructions read to press seek forward twice and back twice, but I found that did not work. You press seek forward once and back once and it works. NOTE: Be VERY CAREFULL when removing the radio not to scratch the face plate for the heater control that is attatched under it. Maybe tape some cardboard or bubble wrap over to protect it.

You can purchase the 1/8 female headpone jack at radio shack.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      Seems to be Missing a lot of Updates

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
