welding on truck

getting ready to give my spare tire carrier a lift so i can actually use it with the 3 inch body lift.

i cut the plate off the crosstubes and am using 3 inch c-channel to lift it up. thought about bolting it on but welding would be quicker. i've heard to disconnect the battery but just wanted to make sure this is really needed so i dont fry anything. thanks

ALWAYS good to disconnect the batt. but i've seen people weld on exaust with no isues but better safe then sorry
