Fist set of tires

Just replaced the oem Steeltex with Mich LTX AT's. The ride is perfectly smooth at all speeds. The tread is more agressive than the LTX M/S which I have used on my SUV's. I like the AT's much better.

Nice choice in tires, man.  I really like the LTX's, and they are one of my top choices for my truck.  I know they are expensive, but you rarely hear of anyone having problems with these tires, so IMO, they are worth the extra $$$.

Nice! What size did you go with. Are your rims the stock alloy? Did you haveto go with a "D" Load Range? What pressure are you running?

I replaced my Firestones at 8000 miles. Couldn't find any 265's in a "E" Load Range. The A/T's were really throwing rocks up on my rocker panel and chipping it up on my 2000 C1500, so this time I went with BFG Long Trails in a "D" which are only about #100 less in load rating, mounted on stock alloy rims. 60 PSI Front, 65 PSI rear. Don't have that problem with the Long Trails. :D

I went with the 245's again. The LTX AT's look bigger than the firestones did. The ride is excellent. The rims are the alloy mags that came on the truck.

Great tires! I loved them on my Cherokee!  Wait until you have to drive through water, especially after having the F-stones.  It's like dry pavement.

Congrats!

New update on tire pressure. Talked direct to tire rep. The best pressure to get max tread life is to use the top limit on cold psi. So now I am running with 80psi on all four tires. Stiffer ride but rolls better. Should get best mpg and longer life on tread wear.

I hate to say something against a rep, so I'll just give an opinion here.  Max tire pressure in the rears would cause a crown on the tread causing extra wear in the center of the tire due in fact to the light weight in the rear of an unladen truck.  Certainly, with proper rotation, that may counteract itself when the rears are moved to the steering tires, but then I would think the extra tread on the edges would tend to cup...

Granted this is just my theory, and I am in no position to judge a tire rep...  :but:

I agree with shaners; max pressure is for max loads, not everyday driving. You may get better gas mileage, but you won't get longer tread life or better traction. AAMOF, your contact patch will be so small in the rear that it might not be sufficient for proper traction – just wait till you drive in the rain! You might want to reconsider that decision.

Thanks for the feedback. I have reveived different opinions on the matter of tire pressure. I think I will let some air out. The inside of the door of the truck has the recommended pressures. I will try those out.
