So what happens when the servo motors that operate the needles for tach, speedo, etc are getting ready to die? I am hearing noise from my cluster while idling with the radio off, and I noticed that my speedo does not return to 0 smoothly when stopping. It's a little rough and jerky on its way back down. Am I being paranoid since the warranty is almost up, or is something about to take a dump?

If you are under warranty then I would definatly bring it to the dealers attention!

There was a thread going on here not to long ago about buying servos on Ebay and installing them yourself (as apposed to buying a new cluster).

Aside from my '05 Sierra, I also have an '03 Yukon. The servo motors in both are making noises. I would also take it in and bring it to their attention because the tach in the Yukon took a dump and doesn't register at all. It will either stay on zero or get stuck at some random place. I have no clue how much they are to replace but I will probably join you in taking it to the dealership.

I had the cluster replaced under warranty in my 04, but unfortunately the new one that was put in is making the same noise.

Thanks guys, I will definitely bring it to the dealers attention so they will at least have a record of it. That should help me out later if they don't do anything now and it should die soon after the warranty is up.

Last saturday returning from getting my taxes done, I stopped at a stop sign and noticed my speedometer was stuck at 20mph. I started to tap the plastic and it fell to 10. It never did fall back to 0 until after I shut off my truck. When I started it back up later it would read about 10mph over what I was doing. I was hoping it just needed recalibrated, but tuesday morn. I took it to my local dealer and they said I needed a whole new cluster. Luckily its covered under the Major Guard warranty. This must be a common occurance, and worries me about the future.

Hi there unfortunately this is a very common problem with these trucks. If you were to go to the dealer to have this repair done your looking at about 500.00. However there is another solution its the motors that run the guages that are bad. I am selling these motors in a kit with complete instructions with pictures and everything you need to do this job. Motor or Motors soldering iron instuctions and solder. The motors are the same for all the guages (speedometer, gas, temp, oil, volts, trans temp) on 03 to 06 Silverado, Sierra, Trail Blazer, Envoy, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon. Please feel free to email me with questions re the availability of these kits. They should be available soon on EBAY but are currently not listed. Price is 100.00 for a kit with one motor and 135.00 for a kit with two motors. I personaly did this job on my own truck and it was very simple to do.
