How much, or too much

What do you feel is a fair price to replace and oil cooler line and a Front axle seal on a 1995 GMC Yukon?

I was also thinking if I should even get the axle seal replaced because they go bad quickly.

Nope I was wrong they changed it to $250 for the front axle they need to also change the fuild.

Who are they?

If it is a GM dealer price I think that normal-expensive.

As far as oil lines I guess it is the seal next to the oil filter that you want to change right?

I have changed that seal on my oil lines myself. It was not too hard just really messy.

You will need a 1 inch deep socket for the adapter. If you need instructions let me know.

It is a Local shop. For the oil lines it is where they crimp onto the medal hose. They are going to replace both the return and feed line from the oil filter into the radiator.

The oil lines themselves are expensive. As I replaced my seals I asked GM parts for a quote on the lines and I think it was somewhere about $100 per oil line. I guess that somewhat answeres your question. Sorry I can't give you better numbers.

WOW $100!! Well then that makes me feel better. For a truck with 170k on it $550 is not to bad. I was thinking of buying the new GMC pick-up but I would feel bad trading this one since it has been so good to me.

Thanks for the quick response I will call the shop and have them order those oil lines.

BTW: I think the trottle body engine of yours is the "better" engine. I wish I had you engine in my truck. I'm not too crazy about the CSFI on mine. Too much clutter on top of the engine. Fuel Pressure regulator and injectors totally inaccessible. From. Yes it has about 50 horses more but who cares. From 2000 5.3 things are getting easier/better again.

As far as your repair, the only thing I would worry about is that the guy does not overtorque the oil lines on the radiator side. In my case the oil lines go into the plastic sidetank of the radiator. Too much torque and the side tank is cracked. So considering the cost of the oil lines $345 for the whole repair sounds ok. If the mechanic does not crack the radiator.

Just on the side: GM parts got too expensive. I bought a f*n switch for the heated seats today. One switch $50 with tax. That sounds more like European pricing.

I feel the same way my first chevy was a 95 with the 5.7 and had no issues and clocked 180k before I wrecked it at the Badlands in Indiana. Then I bought a 98 and had fuel injectors problems and 4wd problems. Got a 97 same issues finally I went back to the 95 and love it. This truck is a truck that I can work on myself and am more connected too.

Good luck with that heated seat......... your lucky it has been in the teens here in Chicago for a while now and sure could use that.

Some more sidenotes without trying to hijack this thread:

In terms of reliability I don't think you will find any better/newer truck than yours. And as you have mentioned it as well, to work on and to bond with, your truck is THE TRUCK.

As far as power I like the way Rolls Royce used to give it's numbers in the old days; horsepower: ENOUGH

That is the way I think nowadays of the power of my truck too. Also I don't see why a 5000-6000 pounds high center gravity vehicle has to race down on city roads with 400+ hp. That just does not make any sense. If I want power and speed I get a Corvette. In my opinion trucks need torque and most GM V8s, new or old, have plenty of that.

I hope your truck serves you and your family for many years to come.
