tail gate bang

I've got a bang in my tail gate at the hinges when I hit a bump and the rear end hops, it's quite annoying because our roads are real rough and it's banging all the time. I put new hinges on it, but they do the same thing. It's just got a "ball and socket" type hing on both sides, but even with the new hinges there is 1/8" or more play in them and it's metal on metal. One would think they should be a little tighter, or have a rubber boot in between to give it some cushion. Anything I can do?

What year is this truck? Also maybe look @ your tail gate latches, and strikers. Just a suggestion

Had the same problem on a Blazer. I solved it by wrapping a layer of masking tape around the bar that fits the latch. I know that's a cheesy way to fix it and will not last but so lnog, but it works.
