I got a tune from wait4me, and so far it's been great. I was just wondering though, if I send it back to have something changed and I put the original back in for a while, is it necessary to do the crank relearn again once I get it back, or is it a once done always done type of thing?

As long as your PCM has been in your truck and knows where the Crank is, you should be fine. It is only when the PCM is new that it sometimes does not know where the crank sensor is. This is when you need to do a relearn procedure..

I am sorry to thread hijack but I thought it might be better than starting a new one. If i send my pcm in to wait4me and he tunes it then sends it back, I don't have to get a crank relearn? But if he sends me a new one then I will have to get it done. is this right???

If you send your PCM, and they tune and return your PCM, then no, you will not have to do a Crank relearn. If they send you another PCM, you may have to do a relearn, but not always. The relearn is a pretty easy procedure.

I had a friend from a Saturn dealership bring a Tech2 over to do the crank re-learn on my 01 Suburban. I had just stuck in a W4ME tune but didn't have the SES light yet. We tried the procedure 4 times (he brought the GM directions for doing it) but never got the stumble. Is there a way to know if it took? There were no codes after trying each of the 4 times.

 

The first two times we took it up to 4100rpm in about 4-5 seconds.

The third time we took it higher.

The fourth time we took it up to 4000rpm again and figured it was good to go.

 

He's a friend that doesn't live close, but I am seeing him again on April 14th. If you think I didn't do it right, I have this last chance to try again until October.

 

Also, the Tech2 asks a question about the active fuel management before going into the crank relearn screen. Which one should we pick? 01 Suburban 4x4 with the 5.3L (non-flex fuel).

Active Fuel management was not started until 2007 truck. Pick 01 MY and when it tell you to do crank relearn then push throttle to floor and engine will winn cutout when RPM come up.

If you do not have a SES light and the light works at startup you dont need the CR.

Thanks, we'll be sure to pick the correct one. I don't have the SES light yet, but have read that it takes a little time for it to appear at time.

I'm not sure if we had the brake pressed, so I will ask him to bring the scan tool with him in April.

I assume when you say "push throttle to floor", you mean slowly, right (5 secs)? Like the directions say, "slowly accelerate to 4000RPM"?

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
