What Model of Auto Trans in 1992 Sierra K1500

I am trying to find out the model of the 4 speed auto trans in my 1992 GMC Sierra K1500. The engine is the 4.3L six. Does anyone have this basic info? I think it is either a 4L60 or a 4L80.

It's probably a 700r4. My buddy has a 1991 K2500 with the V6 4.3 and his is a 700r4 transmission. Not sure when exactly it was replaced by the 4L60 but it's basically the same thing- 4 speed automatic with overdrive.

You'll have to figure out which one, but you have EITHER a 700R4 or a 4L60. Mechanically they are the same transmission, the 4L60 was just the new designation. You may have the electronically controlled version, but I'm doubting it in a '92. However, we KNOW you don't have the 4L80 unless someone did some custom work to your truck.

Should be a 700r4. Look at the TBI unit. If you have a "TV" cable hooked to the throttle lever, it's a 700R4. The "tv" cable acts like a "kick down" rod. The 4l60e installations do not have a "tv" cable because the ECM handles all the shifting with solenoids.
