Doesn't seem far fetched at all. I mean a Touareg can tow a 747 (briefly and very slowly). Moving something like that is more a test of the torque converter than anything else - it's not like there's any real controlling.

Well, the train cars are on wheels and on a track so it ain't as hard. A test I'd like to see is if it can pull it while OFF the tracks.

I pulled a burned-out grand am the other week at the trails. In 4-LO and locked in 1st (auto) it pulled it fairly easy (and on hilly terrain, occasional mud pit). The ride only ended when the d**n front bumper got ripped off finally.

Oh piffle...Pulling an airplane is hardly indicative of big pulling power

I was about to make a snide comment about the little tractors they use to move those things around...

Then I looked at the picture.

Believe it or not, if you fully release the brakes on a loaded freight (train) car, you can push it along a level track with your bare hands. The steel wheels have almost no rolling resistance on the steel rails.

A 100 ton frieght car can roll away with the wind blowing on it! It's one of those things that's hard to believe until you try it. When working on a railroad you may need to move something by yourself without a locomotive!

Pulling 3 train cars along a level track is really not as hard as it would seem. Of course, if they are off the track it's a completely different story!

Yeah, its the stopping that'll get ya with those.

While I agree that from a torque standpoint it wouldn't be impossible - if you watch the commercial it says "fictionalization" in very small print down at the bottom...
