Tape Player

I have an 02 Silverado and the tape player doesnt work. When I put a tape in it just checks both sides a couple times then it shoots it back out. I tried a tape deck clean and that wouldnt stay in so that didnt help the problem. I was wondering if anyone knew what to do thanks.

How about getting rid of it LOL.....seriously check eBay, that's where I sold the one I pulled out of my truck.

I still need it to plug in my ipod and serious radio so I have better quaility than just using them through the radio.

If you can get it out, just check the belts. Sounds like a slipping clutch or belt that's worn. They dry out and slip pretty easily. Take it out, measure it, and get one 10-15% smaller than the existing one. That takes care of the stretch. Problem is, you may have a hard time finding a belt dealer. Radio Shack?

 

Having said ALL that, there may not even be any belts in this unit, maybe just a "clutch wheel". I'm just going on past experience with other tape decks.

If your only goal is to play your Ipod & Sirius... It might be easier to just hard wire a 1/8" male end to your radio. By the time you took apart and cleaned the tape deck you coulda installed the hard wire yourself. You can get all the parts at radio shack.

I would go aftermarket since it would be much easier than fixing the radio or [probably] cheaper than buying another one. Sony makes a nice CD Player for $80 that has a mini-jack input for your iPod on the front. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/ProdVie...&i=158GT110
