Bicycle Carriers

Just wondering if anyone has a bike carrier that goes into the hitch. We are taking a trip this summer after our wedding and we are taking our bikes. I want to use my bedcover to keep things dry in the event it rains. I was thinking about a bike carrier for the bed then I loose the cover. next best thing is the hitch kind. Anyone have one? Anything to watch out for? Can you still see the brake lights with them thats my only fear

I have a Reese that will carry 4. It swings down to a 45 degree to get at the liftgate. I think I paid around $90 about 6 years ago. Some are easier to attach the bikes than others. Mine had 4 V's you rested the crossbar in and a top plate that held them down. Rubber insulated too so they wouldn't scratch. I had to get a little creative to get two adult and two kids bikes. Works better with 4 normal sized bikes.

I had a Reese and I really hated it. Don't get me wrong, it was a good rack but held the bikes by the frame. When I bought my new bike, it wouldn't work with the Reese so I sold it to a friend. I went and dropped a lot of $$$ on a Saris hitch mount rack. I absolutely love it. I have a full suspension bike and really wanted a good rack to protect my baby (plus it is not a cheap bike). I only bought the one that holds two bikes but it is really cool the way it never touches your bike frame. The name of the rack is the Cycle-On Pro. You can buy the add-a-rack system and carry up to four bikes on it. My buddy had the Yakima and we mounted it to his bed cover. It was a PITA and VERY HEAVY. He had to replace his bed cover shocks twice in one year.

Here is the link to my Saris. I warn you it is not cheap but well worth the money!

Hope this helps.
