Drivetrain Noise When Stopping And Then Going?

My truck makes this noise just before I come to a stop and just as I accelerate from a stop. I would describe it as very close to the sound of the truck's horn, if you were to tap it quickly. I don't feel or hear any clunking and I wouldn't describe it as a chirp. When I think of a chirp I think of the sound a bad AC clutch makes when it engages.

 

I just had my tranny rebuilt and as soon as I drove it home from the shop I noticed the noise. I heard this noise before the tranny work but only once in a while. It happens everytime now. I can prevent the noise from happening if I slow my stop down as gingerly as possible so the truck doesn't recoil, then I don't hear it.

 

What's causing this and what can I do?

sounds like the slip yoke

I know what you mean. I have the same sound coming from my truck when tapping on the throttle. Sounds like a light horn honk. Always wondered what that was.

The noise is coming from your rear out put seal on your tcase. GM says to buy a new slip yoke for the rear driveline and put in a new rear seal. The coating on the driveline slip yoke has been changed on the new slip yoke to eliminate the yoke from grabbing the seal and causing this noise. The other thing it can be is from the rear brakes. But I suspect the slip yoke.
