A Question On Making A Mutt- 4l80 On A 350

Well, my project vehicle is a 1980 K-10 with a rebuilt 350 Gen 1 motor (no electronics, pure motor) and 4 speed granny tranny. I want to swap in an automatic. My trans of choice is a Turbo 400 but they're real hard to find around here and a "new" one costs upwards of 1,000-1,300 bucks. I recently spotted a 97 K2500 at my local junkyard and the motor is out of it but it still has the rest of the drivetrain (trans, transfer case, etc).

My wild idea is to maybe try hooking up the 4L80 to the 350 but I don't know if it'll bolt up directly to an old style 350 or if it'll work with the non-electronic NP208. I plan on running 40s with this truck and eventually 49s once I break the half-ton stuff and swap in one-ton running gear.

That tranny should have a 2 piece bell housing. That should make it easy to fit up an adaptor if needed. You will have to run an external computer to control the tranny, but these are easy to find and are avaiable from several different companies. If my memory serves me correctly, the tranny bolt pattern should work on this, any other opnions?

Well I guess if it's gonna cost all that much in addition to the computer crap, I might as well just get a new/remanufactured Turbo 400. I believe Monster Transmissions sells a beefed up version for like 1,100 or so, takes up to 500 hp.
