The world is a very different place from the one which most of us enjoyed in our youth. I remember a former friend who lived 2 doors down growing up wrote a creative writing story in middle school talking about blowing up the school and everyone laughed when he read it. Back then we had absolutely no reason to believe that anyone anywhere would ever do something like that. Nowadays our thoughts must shift from what if to when, and that my friends is unfortunate. God bless the families of those affected by this tragedy.

I was shocked to see it on the news, I just hope all of the wounded survive.

Can any of the Mods fix my creative spelling of Virginia?

Edit~ Spelling fixed- Frank

A Gun on a GUN-FREE school zone?

No way, they're BANNED there! OMFG!!!

If students and teachers who are properly trained were allowed to carry concealed, think of how many lives could have been saved.

What the hell is wrong with people now days? When did it become ok to take the lives of innocent people because you think you were wronged in some insignificant way? Man up and deal with life the right way. It's a good thing he killed himself the world doesn't need any losers like that around. Too bad he killed himself about 33 other people to late. My sympathies to all of the families who lost a loved one or had one injured.

I agree. Facility should be able to have guns locked up in the school in case of an emergency.

And who, do you propose, would have access to said guns? The only people who need and should have access to firearms anywhere public, such as a campus, are the police, and have them they did.

This is, perhaps, the least appropriate time in American history to suggest more liberal firearm policy.

//Was in Randolph Hall, across the street from Norris when it was shot up.

///Has just had the need for police-only gun policy demonstrated to him first hand.

////Friend of eight years jumped out of a window and broke his leg to escape the shooter.

The faculty with appropriate training would be a good start as a first line of defense. BTW, nobody is asking anyone for a more liberal firearm policy. But I do think that individuals with CCPs who were armed would have been able to stop this early.

Yeah, unfortuantely I have the feeling that the main focus of this event is going to be shifted away in the coming days from the tragedy that happened and praying for the families of the murdered to politics, mainly gun control. Being an avid hunter and "pro-gun" person, I don't really need to state my opinions on the situation, but come on, since when in our society is it even thinkable to shoot innocent people for any reason. Guns are the least concern in an event like this. The fact that someone could have the mindset to pre-meditate a murder spree like this points to the fact that the morals and values of our society are really starting to erode, which is pretty scary when you really think about it.

As a recent college grad, I can't imagine what would drive someone to do something like this. If we had a bad day, a bad week, or even a rough couple of weeks, we'd just go out, get drunk, and start the grind the next day. This person was definitely off the deep end (FYI, I'm assuming the shooter was a student, as that's what I'm hearing from the network news).

Hmm, well, I've managed to get a bit philosophical here, so I better stop.

:tear: Thats the problem, too many panzies and cry babies. The only good thing that comes out of school shootings is the queer/queers with guns shoot themselves afterwards.

As a student a a major university I know how I would feel if this was at my school. Really tragic. I know I'll be thinkin' about those kids today.
