Exhaust System-custom Or Kit?

Generally speaking would it be cheaper to have a reputable shop build me a custom dual exhaust kit or buy one from flowmaster or gibson and have it installed? thanks bf

Custom, without a doubt. Call up your local muffler shop and ask for an estimate. Usually it will be much cheaper or at least about the same as a catback. Mine is a single pipe but only cost $162.53 total for piping, clamps, muffler and tips. Flowmaster systems go for around $250 while Gibson's are almost $500! Just make sure you go to a reputable shop that does quality work.

Here's a rundown on what my exhaust cost me:

Bullet (shipped) - $52.233" Piping - $19.503" Clamps - $8.004" Chrome Tip - $22.80Labor - $60.00-------------------------Total = $162.53

I guess it would be important to know what the reputable shop would charge for a custom system comparable to a kit from Gibson or some other supplier.

I prefer a stainless system from the Cat back and had no problem ordering a stainless two-in, two-out dual exhaust kit from Gibson that bolted right up..

One thing to think about is that when you buy a kit, all the pipes are mandrel bent - meaning that if the exhaust pipe measures 2 1/2 inches its 2 1/2 inches the entire length, even through the bends.

Most custom places use a crimp bender, which makes the diamter of the pipe smaller than what it is.
