Need To Ohm Plugs Wires...

Recommended Posts

I have another thread going about my falling gas mileage. Besides the O2 sensors, my plug wires have been mentioned (plugs have been changed)

Rather than go buy new wires before knowing for sure I need them, I am wanting to try to Ohm them out this weekend. But I have no idea what to look for as far as a reading.

Any of you help me?

Plug wires are sort of a go, no-go item. If there is no missfire either felt by you or a computer fault, they are probably OK. Look elsewhere. I admire you for not throwing money at a problem. If you want to measure them, you might use the 7 are 2000 ohms and one is 150,000 ohms technique, like compression. evenness may be more of an issue. What is your mileage and truck specs?

O2 sensors do fail slowly and in the direction of richer (incorrect) mixture leading to poor mileage and performance. You want to clean the maf sensor too.

Check out my original thread about my problems... My other thread

Plugs have been changed, MAF has been cleaned, fuel filter changed last year, new air filter, switched gas stations, gas octane, etc.

Truck has no miss at all that I can tell...I was just trying to rule everything out before spending the money on O2 sensors.

Truck is a 2002 Silverado 4x4, 4.8 liter with about 87000 miles.
