Is there a way to switch this off when the doors opens with the key in the Ignition.

I do lots of work where I get out of the truck and walk 10 steps and would love the truck to idle with the door open and radio playing without having to hear that noise.

Also, the seatbelt going off. Is there a way to shut that thing up.

Thing is, if the Dealer would let me borrow the equipment and take it home and load on my laptop, I bet you any money I could figure it out. But, if they re-load the data on there it'll kill my changes, but heck, let me listen to musick with the door open in peace!!

Good question (first one especially). I am anxious to hear the answer. Makes no sense to warn you about keys in the ignition when you cannot lock your keys in the truck while they are in the ignition. Seems kinda redundant. I too like to leave the door open sometimes, like while pumping gas and there is a good tune on the stereo, without having to hear the super loud "dings". (yes, they are still super loud even when set to low on the DIC).

As a temporary workaround, you can close the latch on the door (Make the truck think that the door is closed). It won't help you much if you're getting in and out a lot, but it is nice to do when working on the truck. I agree taht it is annoying though, and wish there were a better way to turn it off.

My 95 Silverado doesn't make the noise when you pull the big black relay (?) out. It's under the dash on the driver's side. It might also stop the noise when the lights are left on...

I'd like to find where the buzzer is, desolder it, and replace it with an equivilent resister.

I don't know how it is on the 1999 trucks but 2003+ comes through the stereo speakers. :banghead: I just do the latch trick if I'm cleaning or working on the truck.

Sorry guys......The last few years 04? and up the chimes are generated thru the

stock GM radios..................

For a few of the early years 99-01? you just pulled the chime unit from under the

dash. The next year or 2 02-03? you removed the unit (module?) and punched out

the piezo-(spl) ? (noisemaker) or desodered it off the circuit board (instructions

are around here somewhere).........................geo

I don't know why it can be so complicated. There has got too be some software that you install on your laptop. Then take your OBD/USB wire and hook it into your laptop.

You should be able to then go in and change what you want, ofcourse, there may be a password, but why design something so complex that even the Techie's at GMC can't take advantage of.

It is no diferent to changing the volume of the ding ding's, etc etc.

Well, hopefully my Sierra is going in to the dealership today to get looked at. If they come back with the "I don't know" I'm gonna tell them that they need to go to another Goodwrench class because if the equipment was made avaliable to me, I guarantee I could play with the software for long enough to figure it out.

Under the driver's seat, near the right rear seat mount, there is a bundle of wires and a connector. Look for the wires that go to the seat belt. I think it's yellow and black. Use a pin extractor and pull out the pin/wire. No more bell.

Is there a way to get posts on this topic (or any other topic) posted to my email? This is the only site I've subscribed to that makes it so difficult to use.

For the seatbelt buzzer (gong), pull the wire that goes to the female buckle. For the open door chime, put the truck in park before you open the door. At least this is how it works on my '04.

On many of the newer radios ('03 and up), just press the 6th preset (furthest to the right) one time, then press again and hold. After a few seconds, the door chime stops. Then listen away with the door open until the battery dies... like I did a few days ago. :banghead:

This is an unadvertised feature. The only reason you must press the preset button the first time is so you don't accidentally overwrite the #6 preset channel. It works on mine... not sure about the '07 NBS. The only strange thing is that I occasionally have to try it a couple times to get the chime to stop, but 99% of the time, it works the first try.

Let us know if it works for you.
